Carr Vale Sightings Report by Mark Beevers

Common and siberian chiffchaffs still present

Recent news from Carr Vale is that on 8th the Marsh Tit, one Common Chiffchaff and the Siberian Chiffchaff were all still present along the embankment. Two Grey Lag Geese were new in, Stock Doves increased to 40 and the male Peregrine was also seen again. Earlier in the week the highest counts of Wigeon, Gadwall and Teal were 127, 24 and 47 respectively on 5th, when the Peregrine was seen, Cetti’s Warbler was heard, 19 Reed Buntings were on the mound and 12 Yellowhammers were on the eastern end of the embankment. On 6th three Goosander flew south, nine Common Gulls was a good count as was a count of 600 Black-headed Gulls and a Raven flew south but bird of the day was a flyover Woodcock. The 7th was a horrible morning with just two Goosander south, an even better count of 12 Common Gulls (double-figure counts are rare at CV) and the Peregrine again.
