Communities and landscapes across our county are facing increasing climate extremes - from severe winter floods to summer droughts. Quick fixes don't address the problem. To safeguard our towns, rivers, and wildlife, we need long-term solutions.
Nature isn't just something we need to save. It's one of our greatest solutions.
Healthy wetlands, native woodlands, and living soils form Derbyshire’s natural climate defense network. Vibrant wetlands act as sponges to hold peak floodwaters, native woodlands break the force of heavy rain while channeling water deep into the earth, and living soils absorb rainfall rather than letting it wash away. Working together, they buffer flood risks, store vital moisture for dry summers, and create wild spaces for people and wildlife to thrive.

Real climate resilience relies on active, living systems. When we give natural processes space to recover, nature's engineers create sustainable, long-term solutions.
- Beavers construct natural dams that slow floodwaters, trap sediment, and filter pollutants.
- Eurasian elk open up dense forest canopies and stir river nutrients, allowing wildflowers, birds, and insects to flourish.
- Dung beetles aerate the ground and recycle nutrients, building the healthy, water-absorbing soils that keep landscapes resilient.

Landscape-scale nature recovery takes ongoing investment. A regular Direct Debit provides our teams with the reliable funding needed to:

Gift Aid Declaration
You have probably heard that the Government has recently made it easier for charities to reclaim income tax from the Inland Revenue.
By agreeing, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust can reclaim the tax on your subscriptions and donations made to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Your subscription/donation will then be worth almost one third more to Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, at no extra cost to you.
Although there is now no minimum amount for Gift Aid donations and subscriptions, to be eligible for Gift Aid you must pay an amount of income tax or capital gains tax equal to the tax we reclaim on your donations (currently 25p on every £1 you give). Please do consider doing this - it really makes an enormous difference.
