Carr Vale Sightings Report by Mark Beevers

A quieter period at Carr Vale

Begining of June update and after all the excitement of May lifes got a bit duller on the patch. Still present on 4th were the two drake Teal, 43 Gadwall, male Pochard, pairs of Oystercatcher and Common Tern, three Herring and one G B B Gull whilst Cuckoo, Lesser Whitethroat and Coal Tit were good June birds. Earlier in the week the 1st produced a male Mandarin Duck and a Red Kite, the 2nd a brood of ten Gadwall and a Barn Owl and the 3rd six Herring Gulls, a Raven north and a male Banded Demoiselle. On 5th a Red Kite was watched from the mound as it flew east to the south of us over Heath and then Doe Lea a couple of miles south of us at 0915. At noon another flew south over the embankment (seen by Tony Adams) having flown south over Pools Brook CP two miles to the north of us (seen by Kev Navin) just five minutes earlier. Also on 5th the two Male Teal still, and extra Common Tern and a second summer Herring Gull. A new brood of ten Gadwall (2nd brood of the year) was on Tony’s Scrape although one of the first brood was taken by the murderous L B B Gull.
