We want to see a Wilder Willington!
We have so much planned for our Willington Wetlands and we can't wait for you all to come and visit!
In a bid to make our site much Wilder, we will be introducing beavers to Willington! We are really excited about this, as beavers are great at helping to maintain land not only for themselves, but for other wildlife as well.
As well as the beavers, we are also going to be making Willington Wetlands more accessible. It is such a beautiful site, and we want to share it with as many people as possible. With this in mind, we would love to create a 5 mile circular walk on site, as well as build a brand new visitor centre and hide so everyone can get up close with nature and hopefully spot a beaver or two!
Together with the Crowdfunder and postal donations we have achieved our Stage 1 target of £35,000!! This means we now have the funds needed to make the site secure with beaver-proof fencing.
Matt Buckler, Nature Recovery Network manager at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has said; “We’re overjoyed at the fantastic response we’ve had to plans to bring beavers back to our Willington Wetlands reserve. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and supported us in this first month – it means the world to us. We’re now able to press on and continue raising funds for all the costs involved.”
The plans are still going ahead and we have now launched Stage 2 to raise funds to cover £17,400 for the beaver health checks, transport and beaver monitoring costs.
If you would like to support bringing beavers back you can donate to the new crowdfunder campaign below or buy one of our cute beaver adoption packs.
