Supporting you, so you can support Derbyshire

So what do we offer to our employees?

Well first and foremost, you get to work in glorious Derbyshire!  Admittedly we are a bit biased, but we think it is the most beautiful county in the UK, with a bit of something for everyone – from mountains and moorland to lakes and rivers; from thriving urban environments to a rural mosaic of drystone walls, hedges, meadows and ancient woodlands – and that’s our working environment. What’s not to like?

Secondly, we offer a phenomenal place to work with a really buzzing, exciting vibe. Working hard and playing hard is a cliché but very true at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. And to balance the energetic atmosphere of the office, if you find you need a bit of head space you can walk out of our office at Middleton straight on to one of our most lovely nature reserves at Gang Mine (other fabulous walks are available!).

Let us tell you more...

Pay

We recruit the best!  So if you come and work for us we need to make sure you want to stay with us.   We benchmark our salaries against other similar organisations and make sure we offer a competitive salary for each role.

Pension

Employees are auto-enrolled in to our pension scheme with a contribution of 9.5% from the Trust and a contribution from you of at least 4%.  Our pension scheme is with Royal London and you can monitor your investments online.

Life assurance

Should the worst happen, all our employees are covered by our life assurance scheme which will provide 3 times your salary to your beneficiaries.

Holidays

Full time staff get 25 days holiday, plus 8 public holidays a year. And on top of that, we give 3 concessionary days between Christmas and New Year.   Annual leave is pro-rata if you work part time.

Flexible working

From time to time we all need to rebalance our work and home lives.  The Trust is always ready to talk to staff about ways we may be able to support this – reduced hours, occasional home working, flexible workings patterns – if we can accommodate your needs, we will.

Mums and dads

Starting or growing your family?  If you have worked for the Trust for 26 weeks or more we will provide enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave over and above your statutory entitlement.

Childcare Vouchers

We offer Childcare vouchers through Computershare. Childcare vouchers are a great way to make significant savings in the cost of providing childcare as they are paid for direct from your salary without having tax and National Insurance deducted from them (how much you save will depend on how much you earn and what tax allowances you have, but is likely to be about 32%).

Learning and development

We put a big emphasis on learning and development for all staff at the Trust and are keen to help you with your career and professional development.

Performance development review (PDR)

This annual review is your opportunity to talk through your achievements for the last year, review where your development programme has reached and look at your goals and development for the next year.  As well as the annual PDR, you will also have regular one to ones with your manager, where you can discuss the best way to resolve any issues and celebrate successes.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

We provide a 24 hour helpline via our partners at Health Assured.  This is a fully confidential service available to our employees, and for some services their families. The helpline covers a wide range of areas that may be causing concerns – legal, health, stress and anxiety, debt, bereavement, substance abuse.

Eye tests

If you spend a lot of time looking at a computer screen, you're entitled to an eye test (every two years).

Tools for the job

We’ll provide most employees with a PC or laptop and, if necessary, a mobile phone. We have a small fleet of vehicles which are available on a pool system for staff business use.

Recognition

Recognising and celebrating our employees’ achievements is really important to us and we do this through a variety of ways, both locally within individual teams and recognising our rising stars across the whole wider organisation.

Our values

Our values are really important to us at the Trust.   They help guide the way we work and support our very positive and creative culture. They also underpin how we work together to deliver our strategic vision of defending wildlife, restoring landscapes and inspiring people. Take a peek and see if they match your own.
