Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reaches Big Give Christmas target thanks to supporters

Thanks to the generosity of wildlife supporters, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has reached its Big Give Christmas Challenge target and raised more than £56,800 to help reconnect people with nature by bringing back lost key species to Derbyshire’s landscapes!

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust was selected from charities nationwide to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge. It brings together philanthropists, foundations and businesses to double the impact of every donation the public makes.

Between 2nd–9th December, every donation made to the Trust on the Big Give website was doubled.

Supporters and the Trust’s Big Give Champion, the Reed Foundation, pledged a generous lump sum of £28,400, which was matched funded by the public to launch the next phase of the Trust’s Species Reintroduction Programme.

The money raised will support the reintroduction of white stork, pine marten, and Eurasian elk to Derbyshire, restoring some of our most iconic lost species, and working hand-in-hand with communities to create wildlife-rich places across the county.

Ruth Pilbeam, Rewilding Projects Officer at Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, said:

“We are absolutely overwhelmed by the kindness and enthusiasm shown by everyone who donated or shared our appeal. Thanks to our supporters, we have unlocked the full match-funding pot, enabling us to deliver even greater impact at a time when nature is declining rapidly and many people feel increasingly disconnected from it.

“Reaching the target means we can now move forward with vital work to revive thriving ecosystems, support biodiversity and enhance people’s wellbeing. This work will create lasting benefits for communities and wildlife for generations to come.”
