Witches Oak Water Sighting by Rod Key

Posted: Saturday 9th December 2017 by Witchesoakwater

Friday 8th December - It was a cold, bright morning with a strong NW wind, force 3/.4 blowing. It was a pleasure to be out but the reserve was very quiet with duck numbers down on last week across all areas. The only highlight on the Reserve was a count of 12 Goldeneye but there was no sign of the hopeful return of any Smew yet. Counts on the reserve were 2 Little Grebes, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 16 Cormorants, 5 Mute Swans, 17 Wigeon, 5 Gadwall, 40 Teal, 1 Pochard, 42 Tufted Duck, 12 Goldeneye, 1 Common Gull-ad, 1 Green Woodpecker and 3 Blackbirds. Elsewhere on the whole site were 71 Wigeon, 32 Gadwall, 3 Shoveler, 8 Pochard and 84 Tufted Duck. All in all a very quiet morning.
