Carr Vale Sighting by Mark Beevers

Posted: Monday 18th December 2017 by Carrvale

Monday 18th December - It's been pretty quiet over the last ten days hence the lack of postings. Of the regulars one of the Peregrines was still on its favoured pylon this morning, the lone Pink-footed Goose was still with the Canadas and up to four Willow Tits have been coming to a feeding station on the Peter Fidler Resereve but with this persistent cold snap the last date for the two Chiffchaffs and Cetti's Warbler was 15th December. Wildfowl max counts for the period are Wigeon 120 on 14th-15th, Gadwall 55 on 11th, Teal 56 on 15th, Mallard 78 on 14th and Shoveler three between 14th and 16th. Othewise since the 9th the highlights have been a male Pochard on 9th, three Water Rails, Golden Plover, 40 Sky Larks, 108 Pied Wagtails (north to roost) and nine Bullfinches on 10th, 126 Lapwings and ten Golden Plover on 11th, 20 Red-legged Partridges on 12th, nothing on 13th, male Brambling on 14th (still present on 18th), 30 Reed Buntings counted into roost on 15th, two Little Egrets north (latest ever at CV) and ten Lesser Redpolls (with possibly one Mealy which was flushed before id could be confirmed) on 16th, male Goosander south on 17th and nothing on 18th.
