Come and join us at Darley Parks Superhero Picnic on Thursday 2nd August.

We will be celebrating the final year of DerwentWISE, our Landscape Partnership Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

We’ll be in our  giant circus-style big top in Darley Park having lots of fun making, creating, playing games and exploring nature.

Get hands on and crafty with us, making mini mosaics, a Highland cow from willow, giant land art, nature power bracelets, clay fossils, and caddisfly cases. Learn about the local wildlife by river dipping and mini beast hunts and learn about the landscape and heritage through story-telling and weaving. You can also join on a treasure hunt and try and find your way out of the stone labyrinth - make sure you don’t get lost!

This is one of three celebration events over the next nine months to celebrate the huge success of DerwentWISE. Nadine Stevenson said, “We are delighted to be having our first celebration event as part of Derby City Council’s Love Parks week.  For the last five years we’ve been learning about and caring for the wildlife and heritage of the Lower Derwent Valley with schools, families, volunteers and local groups. Now it’s time to share and celebrate the projects and the people that made it happen. There is a wonderful legacy of community togetherness that has come from DerwentWISE and we really want to celebrate that and ensure it continues long after the project has come to an end.”

Tania Pells the DerwentWISE Scheme Manager added “We feel very lucky to be able to have the DerwentWISE celebration event as part of the Darley Park superhero picnic. Through the partnership we have introduced highland cows grazing on the local nature reserve and restored historic views in the park. A highlight was creating the mosaic installation in the hydrangea garden, a collaboration with the local community, William Gregg School and Friends of Darley Open Spaces. Not to mention the Derby Parks team who have been a joy to work with.”

The Darley Parks Superhero Picnic will be taking place on Thursday 2nd August between 11am-3pm. No booking is required just come along and join in the fun.  All DerwentWISE activities are FREE!
