Witches Oak Water Sightings by Vic Bevan

Posted: Monday 30th October 2017 by Witchesoakwater

Monday 30th October - A lovely late autumn day, cool at 7C with the first heavy frost of the winter. Overall waterbird numbers are still lower than the same period last year, presumably due to the mild weather we have been having. Highlights today were 4 Snipe, a smart male Goldeneye and 3 Goosander. Bird counts were 4 Little Grebe, 25 Great Crested Grebe, 20 Cormorant, 4 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron, 29 Mute Swan, 2 Canada Goose, 78 Wigeon, 47 Gadwall, 38 Teal, 100 Mallard, 27 Shoveler, 168 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye, 3 Goosander, 1 Moorhen, 95 Coot, 4 Snipe, 170 Black-headed Gull, 4 Common Gull, and 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull. A Fox having a 'mad moment' almost ran full pelt into me before thinking better of it and veering off into the long grass bordering Lake 10.
