Fabulous family day out at local Nature Reserve

Local families enjoyed the wildlife and the sunshine from dawn to dusk on Saturday, 30th June, at The Avenue Washlands Nature Reserve, just south of Chesterfield, at an Open Day organised by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Group.

Starting with an early morning bird-ringing demonstration and finishing with moth-hunting by moonlight - with guided walks, pond-dipping, making bird-feeders and many other activities in between, there was lots to see and do for all ages.

"It was a great family day out".

As well as Trust staff and volunteers on hand to help visitors enjoy the birds, flowers, butterflies and Wildlife on the nature reserve, there were displays and information from other wildlife organisations such as the Derbyshire Amphibian and Reptile Group, Mid-Derbyshire Badger Group, Derbyshire Bat Group, Derbyshire Mammal Group, Sorby Breck Ringing Group, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, and Chesterfield and District Bee-keepers Association.
