Discovery Trail Matlock Bath Outdoor sensory fun to inspire little ones at The Whistlestop Discovery Centre

Our brand new children’s outdoor discovery trail has just opened in Matlock Bath.

Our new Wildlife Discovery Trail and play area has just launched at the Whistlestop Discovery Centre in Matlock Bath. Perfect for entertaining the children this autumn and beyond!

The outdoor play area encourages children’s imaginations with brilliant bug hotels, beautiful discovery trails, pond dipping opportunities and wild music making. It is packed full of information about minibeasts, recycling, the Water Cycle and composting to help children to understand the science behind the natural world and suggests activities they can get involved with, either independently or with the help of centre staff or their teachers.

This is all thanks to almost £23,000 of funding from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, administered by the Derbyshire Environmental Trust and the funding has also allowed existing facilities at the centre to be upgraded.

Emma Wood, our project manager said, “the trail is making a huge impact on all visiting children, there is now space for them to play and explore the natural world around them, all the children who have visited so far have really enjoy the new features. There has been lots of laughing and discovering of new things.”

Grahame, estates manager at Tarmac, added, “We’re delighted to be able to support Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the project at the Whistlestop Discovery Centre which is so beneficial to the local community. It will be great to see children and adults enjoying the facilities which will help them appreciate and enjoy biodiversity.”

You can visit the Discovery Trail during the Education Centre’s opening hours - take part in one of the scheduled events at the centre at the same time. Click here for all the events.
