Assist the Shop Manager in the day to day running of the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Charity Shop at Belper.

This post provides a wide range of opportunities for undertaking a wide range of different tasks relating to the day to day running of DWT’s first Charity shop. Interested candidates can specify if they have a particular area of interest, or can be fully trained to undertake a wide range of activities, working towards the role of Lead Volunteer. A Lead Volunteer is able to provide temporary cover for a short period and by prior arrangement for the store manager or sales assistant.

The post holder will have contact with other staff and volunteers, and with a wide range of customers on both routine and non-routine matters. She/he will need to convey a positive first impression to customers.

The post will be based at the Trust Charity Shop, King Street, Belper and flexible working hours are available between 9 and 5 Monday to Saturday.

Volunteers are required to work within the policies and procedures of the Trust, to work harmoniously with each other and to provide appropriate assistance and advice to others for the effective undertaking of their respective activities.


General Information

We have a number of openings and there are a wide range of opportunities for an individual within the scope of this role. Volunteers can apply to carry out a specific type of activity or can be trained to undertake the whole range of activities involved in running a successful charity shop, working towards becoming a lead volunteer and responsible key holder if desired. The main areas of activities include, but are not limited to:

• Sales assistant

• Stockroom assistant

• Merchandiser

• Administration

• Stock delivery / driver

• Lead Volunteer

 

Main duties

Assist the Shop Manager in the day to day running of the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Charity Shop at Belper by:

• Providing excellent customer service, building loyalty from customers, donors and volunteers

• Help achieve maximum sales at all times, operating the cash register and receiving donated goods

• Help to ensure that the stock is presented to its best possible advantage both inside the shop and in the window

• Help maintain shop floor stock density, rotating stock on a daily basis so that no garment remains on the shop floor for any longer than the agreed time limits.

• Assist in the sorting, hanging, and ticketing of donated stock ready for putting onto the shop floor

• Implement any promotion in the shop as directed

• Actively support membership recruitment at all times within the shop 

• Help maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness throughout the shop premises

• Actively encourage the public to donate saleable goods and where applicable sign up as Gift Aid donors, building loyalty and encouraging repeat donations

• Where appropriate support administrative duties such as sales sheets and stock takes

• Assist in the movement of stock between locations

Implement health and safety procedures in accordance with the Trust’s policy.
