Community Rewilding Allestree Park Timeline & Next Steps

2024 Timeline

Based on the wide range of conversations about what people want to see happen in Allestree Park, we have created a timeline of activities for 2024 which will help us all to get there together.

Climate Action Fund
A three-year programme of funding from the National Lottery Climate Action Fund to help deliver the Allestree Park Community Rewilding Project.

2024-2027

Citizen Science & Citizen Zoo
Throughout the year there will be opportunities to get involved in monitoring how rewilding is changing the park for people and wildlife, helping to shape what happens next.

Monitoring landscape changes
Fixed photography points will be introduced to the park to enable the public to take photos using their mobile phone and submit them to help monitor the evolving landscape.

Ongoing from early Spring 24

Comparison site surveying
To monitor the changes for wildlife happening at Allestree Park, we are teaming up with the National Trust at Kedleston Park and Kedleston Park Golf Club, to carry out comparison surveys.

Ongoing from early Spring 24

Bird’s Eye View
Join Derbyshire Ornithological Society, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and Derby City Council to learn more about the birds in the park and how you can help to survey them.

Sunday 21st April, 10am – 12.30pm

Wildlife Group Monitoring
Many local wildlife groups have joined the project to find out what wildlife is at Allestree Park, what isn’t and what could be! From bats to birds, butterflies to bees, groups will help us to know how things are changing and what more could be done.

Ongoing from Spring 24

Citizen Zoo
An opportunity to be involved in a programme of activities to help bring back mini-but-mighty species such as dung beetles, to help them improve the park for other wildlife.

Ongoing from Spring 24

Wetter is better!
Ever wondered about the water flowing beneath your feet? Join our wacky but wonderful event to have a go at water divining to map the water courses running across the site and help plan how to hold water on site longer, making it better for wildlife.

Summer 24 (date to follow)

Team Wilder Activities
Throughout the year we will be hosting a programme of Team Wilder Activities celebrating the awe and wonder of nature and offering opportunities to take action for nature on your doorstep.

Be a Boar Day
Join us for a ‘boaring’ time in Allestree Park, mimicking wild boar grubbing around in the soil (using tools, not snouts!), to disturb dormant wildflowers and encourage them to grow.

Sunday 24th March, 10am – 12pm

A Tree for a Tee
An opportunity for the community to adopt a tee and plant a tree in its place once the tee has been removed. Fruit trees will provide a food source for pollinators, birds and mammals.

Late spring/early summer

Wilder Allestree Park Blooming Party
Join us and other wildlife and community groups to celebrate Allestree Park in full Bloom and get involved in actions for nature.

Sunday 9th June, 10am – 2pm
