Since January, Derby City Council have been asking the public to consult on rewilding at Allestree Park. Although the consultation period is due to end on 11 April, there is still time for you to have your say.

The consultation is in partnership with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the University of Derby, who want to hear from everyone who is interested in how the park can be developed into the UK’s largest urban rewilding space, whether they live nearby or enjoy the park regularly.

Already there has been over 1000 responses and thoughts on the rewilding project include supporting nature recovery in the Derby region, providing more space for a range of nature-rich habitats and potential new species reintroduction. Respondents are also talking about activities closer to nature, including self-led and guided nature trails, walk or wheeled opportunities, educational courses, and a visitors’ centre. There has been less interest in adventure activities such as zip wiring or glamping

Rewilding the 130-hectare park land, will support climate change and bring wide-ranging benefits for nature, wildlife and people.

The consultation period runs until 11 April.
