A First Book of Nature by Nicola Davies, illustrated by Mark Hearld, published by Walker Books

A review by Nick Brown, Wildlife Enquiries Officer.
This delightful children’s book isn’t new but is well worth promoting especially just before ‘the big day of present giving’

It captures “the simple loveliness that is everywhere if only we can look”.

Mark Hearld’s paintings bring all sorts of wildlife to life and there are so many simple activities for children to carry out from blowing dandelions to rock pooling and from the joy of leaf kicking and den making.

And there is lots of biology too, simply and enjoyably described by the author with superb illustrations to accompany the text.

I recommend this book very highly. What’s more it can be bought direct from the Trust:

If you need a present for a child, rush and get a copy – you will not regret it!
