Drakelow by Thomas Cockburn

DRAKELOW NATURE RESERVE: Tuesday 8th February. I am indebted to Keith Walker for updating me on a visit to the DNR this date. There is no improvement in the flooded road situation and he considered it was worse than on his visit of last week. He reports the usual duck species with counts of Teal 32, Mallard 32, Wigeon 24, Gadwall 40, Goldeneye – two and a Goosander. Oystercatcher and Snipe were recorded as was a Sparrowhawk and a Buzzard. Both Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers were reported and there was a count of 16 Grey Herons with much activity in the heronry at the North Pool.
