Carr Vale Sighting by Mark Beevers

Posted: Friday 8th December 2017 by Carrvale

8th December - Recent news for Carr Vale is that the regulars are still or more than likely still present with Peregrine last seen on 7th, Cetti's Warbler last heard on the 6th and at least one Chiffchaff still present on 8th. Wildfowl numbers this week have been pretty poor with peak counts of 94 Wigeon on 4th and 6th, 57 Gadwall on 4th, 22 Teal on 7th and three Shoveler on on 3rd and 4th with last two females on 6th. A late bit of news concerns a Marsh Tit on 28th November, which following last years record, which was the first for 19 years becomes the fifth for the site. It was relocated on the 6th when five of the regulars caught up with it (and it was a new CV bird for four of them!). The other notable records include a juvenile Whooper Swan north on 3rd, 60 Pink-footed Geese west, a male Goosander north and a flock of 40 Sky Larks on 4th, Three Goosander north at dusk and 81 Pied Wagtails also north at dusk on 5th when a Barn Owl was seen early morning. Barn Owl again on 6th along with three Chiffchaffs, an Egyptian Goose was seen on 7th when two Chiffchaffs were on the embankment and finally there are an estimated 12 Water Rails in the area following surveys on 4th and 5th.
