A jaunt in the Jubilee Wood

For today’s random act of wild we decided to head to a place we’d not visited since Toby was a few months old; the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Wood, which is located not far from us in Normanton le Heath.

Planted and maintained by the Woodland Trust the area forms part of the Jubilee Woods project, which aimed to create 60 new woodlands in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

As Toby was born in 2012 we sponsored a tree in his name

As Toby was born in 2012 we sponsored a tree in his name, and while we didn’t have its exact coordinates with us today we enjoyed roaming around the area in any case. As we strolled, we saw butterflies, bees, and all manner of birds, as well as a great many trees just beginning to establish themselves in this world – it was fantastic to see how much they’d grown since 2013 when we first visited, and the area feels far more like a woodland now.

We’re looking forward to watching it grow over the years, and have promised ourselves that we’ll pop back much sooner next time. We even had time to find a geocache located within the woodland – what a wild afternoon!
