A moment of calm

Day six was spent in the park, again, as we reveled in the sunshine, spotted clouds and aeroplanes in the sky, and ate a picnic beneath a tree.

I wish I could have bottled that moment to use whenever life gets stressful, so tranquil was the evening air.

However, in the spirit of doing something different every day we decided to slow things down a little during the evening; as the boys’ windows were already open in a vain attempt to let some air in, we encouraged them both to listen to the dusk chorus of the birds as they fell asleep, identifying the calls of wood pigeons, starlings, sparrows, and blackbirds as they dozed.

It was a truly magical lullaby, and worked a treat! Once the children were asleep I took a moment for myself in the garden, watching the sunset and listening to the birds once more.
