Drakelow by Thomas Cockburn

Posted: Thursday 18th January 2018 by Drakelow

DRAKELOW NATURE RESERVE: Thursday 18th January 1200 – 1315. This was a short visit to assess any damage or floods due to the recent high winds and heavy rain. Other than several tree limbs and small branches there was no restriction on access. There is a large flood pool in the usual area but, as yet, is not all that deep. The Long-tailed Duck and Hooded Merganser were both present although there was a dearth of birds on the Main Lagoon. There is a log entry of a Scaup for the 16th but the bird was not seen again. On the 17th ten Snipe, Woodcock, Peregrine, Water Rail and Stonechat were reported. With thanks to AG, AB, DH, AL, NC and MJH.
