Capturing Derbyshire's Rivers - Photo Competition

We want you to go out and capture the essence of Derbyshire's rivers, streams and brooks. Show us what makes them special to you!

There are four categories you can enter your photograph into:

  1. Wild Water: Our rivers start as brooks and streams, crisscrossing our county and coming togther to create some magnificent rivers. Big or small, we want to see why you love them, and what lives on them.
  2. Urban: not all our waterways flow through gorgeous countryside. Show us the wild side of the water that runs through our cities and towns.
  3. Smartphone: Perfect for capturing those moments that 'just happen'. Share your streamside selfies!
  4. Under 18's: From first paddle to riverside adventures - we want to see what makes our rivers special through the eyes of the younger generation. Show us what is important to you.

Our judging panel includes fish twitcher and filmmaker Jack Perks, Andy Littler, Managing Director of local company Longcliffe Quarries, and Jayn Sterland, Managing Director of Weleda (UK). This year, we are also going to ask the public to vote for their favourite overall image, a 'People's Choice' winner!

The deadline for entries is Thursday 31st August 2017; we'll announce the winners in September. This gives you plenty of time to go out and start snapping. Why not take your camera along on the Derwent River Challenge

Apart from the obvious glory of winning, there will also be prizes for the lucky winners. Keep an eye out here for details!

How to enter

Email your photograph to with Rivers Photo Competition in the subject line, and tell us where the photo was taken, your name, age, and which category you'd like to enter it into. There is no limit to the number of individual entries you can make.

Thank you to our corporate supporters Weleda UK, Thornton's and Rockfall UK for providing the prizes for the competition.
