Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is branching out this autumn, with three Big Tree Plant events to celebrate National Tree Planting Week.

Everyone is welcome to come along and help plant trees at these free events, which take place at Allestree Park, Derby on Saturday 23rd November, Mackworth Park, Derby on Saturday 30th November and Lea Brook Valley Woods, Dronfield on Saturday 30th November.

The Trust aims to plant 1000 trees at each site. The Derby events run from 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm, while the Dronfield event takes place from 9.30am-3pm. For Allestree park at the Woodlands Road car park, for Mackworth, park on the road and enter the park via Greenwich Drive South, and for Lea Brook Valley Woods head for the junction of Gosforth Drive and Coniston Road. Each event will have clear signs leading to the planting area.

Funding for the events has come from the Forestry Commission’s Big Tree Plant as part of the Trust’s Value in Trees Project. The Trust’s Louise Valantine co-ordinates the project – she said: “Everyone is invited to come along to the events to help us plant trees. Please wrap up warm and wear waterproofs if wet, and make sure you have sturdy footwear. You’ll also need to bring a spade and gloves if you can, but don’t worry if you can’t as there will be some spare tools on site. We’d love as many people as possible to come along and help us. We are working in partnership with Derby Parks and the Friends of Allestree Park in Derby and with Yorkshire Water and the Lea Brook Valley Woods Green Team in Dronfield.”
