Woodside Farm Nature Reserve sighting, by Jim Steele

May Day. Three raptors soaring together - kestrel, peregrine and my first hobby of the year. Two buzzards. Skylarks singing, as were two lesser whitethroat, with another just outside the reserve, and willow warblers, chiffchaff, blackcap and a single reed warbler. Green woodpecker flying away from me as usual. Nuthatch calling. Pair of bullfinches. Reed buntings. Heron overhead. Butterflies struggling a little with it being not too warm but two speckled woods put in an appearance, as did my first dingy skipper of the year, albeit just off the reserve. Jim.
