Witches Oak Water Sightings by Vic Bevan

Saturday 23rd December - Overcast and feeling very wintery on the reserve today with a temperature of 9C and a light SW wind. Water levels have dropped considerably over this week, but remain near the top of the gauges. Best birds of the day were a flyover Golden Plover and 2 redhead Smew. Overall bird numbers reduced with a full count of 2 Little Grebe, 19 Great Created Grebe, 7 Grey Heron, 27 Cormorant, 6 Goosander, 2 Smew, 8 Greylag Goose, 38 Canada Goose, 17 Mute Swan, 29 Goldeneye, 211 Tufted Duck, 59 Mallard, 23 Gadwall, 190 Wigeon, 38 Teal, 1 Pochard, 75 Coot, 3 Moorhen, 2 Snipe, 1 Lapwing, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Kingfisher, and 75 Black-headed Gull. 4 Cettiā€™s Warbler were calling.
