Witches Oak Water Sighting by Rod Key

Posted: Monday 4th December 2017 by Witchesoakwater

Friday 1st December - After being unable to visit the Reserve for a period of about 4 weeks due to a foot problem it was nice to be out and about on the reserve on a fine but cold morning with a light NNE wind. The reserve was very quiet with the big surprise being that I could only find 1 Goldeneye. To make up for that there was 1 Little Egret, single Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers and a Chiffchaff. Counts on the reserve were 7 Great Crested Grebes, 5 Cormorants, 1 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 4 Mute Swans, 74 Wigeon, 15 Gadwall, 62 Teal, 75 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldeneye, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Blackbirds, 1 Fieldfare and a Chiffchaff. Elsewhere on the rest of the site were 1 Shelduck, 88 Gadwall, 28 Shoveler and 6 Redwing.
