Witches Oak Water Sightings by Vic Bevan

Posted: Monday 23rd October 2017 by Witchesoakwater

Overcast 11C with a very light SW wind, I just managed to get around both Phases 1 & 2 before the rain set in. Highlights were a Ruff with Lapwing, and a Grey Wagtail both on Lake 9. Both broods of Mute Swan are still thriving and growing rapidly. Waterbird counts were 1 Little Grebe, 24 Great Crested Grebe, 24 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 11 Grey Heron, 31 Mute Swan, 50 Canada Goose, 55 Wigeon, 35 Gadwall, 24 Teal, 122 Mallard, 4 Shoveler, 160 Tufted Duck, 1 Moorhen, 100 Coot, 40 Lapwing, 1 Ruff, 1 Kingfisher, 120 Black-headed Gull and 3 Lesser Black-backed Gull. 7 Cetti's Warbler were calling, and the first Redwing of the winter were amongst the large numbers of Blackbird. 2 Grey Squirrels were the only mammals seen.
