14th October - Saturday afternoon was a bright and unusually warm for mid October with a temperature of around 22, there was a south westerly breeze blowing. The water levels remain good to high and flowing out of the reserve. Waders were scarce and water fowl quite flightly working into the sun made it difficult to identify on some lakes but water fowl seen on Phase 2 as follows: Swans 42 with a couple of families one with 2 signets the other with 3; 8 great crested grebe and 3 juvenile grebes ; 1 little grebe; 54 coot; 120 Tufted ducks; 42 wigeon; 45 teal; 12 Gadwall; 1 Moorhen; 47 Black headed Gulls; 2 Heron and 2 Little Egrets Other birds heard 4 Chetti Warbler, blackbird, mistle thrush, blue tit, long tail tit, robin great tit, pigeon with 32 Cormorant & 75 Lapwing on quarry lake. quite a few giant hawkers flying around two white butterflies and a couple of grey squirrels
