Hollinhill and Markland Grips Sightings by Eleanor Wilkins

12th November - Bird Ringing Session held at Hollinhill Grips on 12th produced 66 birds (retrapped bird nos after/) Blue Tit 6/7, Great Tit 15/3, Goldcrest 5/1, Coal Tit 3/1, Marsh Tit 2/1, BLACKCAP 1/0, Nuthatch 1/0, Dunnock 2/2, Wren 2/0, Long-tailed Tit 7/5, Chaffinch 1/0 and Bullfinch 1/0. Skein of Pink-footed Geese flew due east at 0900 hrs. Two Tawny Owls called when setting nets and Great spotted Woodpecker seen. Oldest known bird a Blue Tit, first caught here in Oct 2013 and a Long-tailed Tit had originally been ringed at sewage works in Clowne in Sept. Female Blackcap (pictured) most likely a continental bird come to overwinter here.
