Witches Oak Water Sightings by Vic Bevan

Posted: Sunday 12th November 2017 by Witchesoakwater

Sunday 12th November - I am really pleased to report that we have now completed the work to restore the Lake 10 reed bed on the Witches Oak Water reserve. Following years where the site was not being managed, this was one of the priority projects once the reserve was taken under management of the DWT, It has taken a great deal of volunteer and Corporate group effort through working parties to clear and burn the willow which had invaded the reed bed and was causing it to dry out. We are already seeing the benefit of the improvements with recent sightings of Bittern and Great White Egret, and increased numbers of waterbirds using the reed bed. Have a look at the attached photograph; it is really looking good now! Lots more to do on other areas of the reserve but nice to have one of the key areas looking so good. Again many thanks to all those who have contributed.
