The Avenue Washlands sighting report by Ron Turner

Friday 14th June: BIRDS: mandarin 1, gadwall 1m, tufted 3m and 1f (with 2 young), little ringed plover; FLOWERS: alsike clover, lady’s bedstraw, Yorkshire fog, common couch, common bent, bitter sweet, creeping thistle, spear thistle, stinging nettle, silverweed, white campion; INSECTS: common white wave. Saturday 15th June: FLOWERS: yarrow, greater plantain, crosswort, broad leaved helleborine, dog rose; INSECTS: Anthomyia procelaris (a black fly), Nemophora degeerella (long horn moth). Sunday 16th June: BIRDS: buzzard 1, kestrel with prey in its talons, house sparrow 2, gadwall 1m, tufted 2m and 1 female (with 1 young), mistle thrush 2, plenty of young birds about; FLOWERS: amphibious bistort, bladder campion.
